This wine is going to be almost impossible to find but note it’s varietal ‘Verdicchio’. You probably haven’t tried it before as it’s only grown in Italy but if you like Pinot Grigio you’ll like a lot of Verdicchios.

The word “tart” shows up a lot in the wine world. It can be good when balanced against other flavours. Tartness usually shows up in the after taste or finish of the wine as part of other notes. This wine is just plain tart, almost sour. It’s just there and not balanced against anything.
The label is certainly creative.

Full disclosure, this (as far as I can remember) is my first time encountering this grape. I was immediately struck by the structure and acid which made it very bright and very intense. The citrus flavour is kinda vague – I settled on lemon as the leading fruit. After drinking it with some adobo chicken (fatty food works well with acidic wine) I noticed some apple flavours come through. My research tells me the wines made with this grape (Terre di Chieti) has many possible styles. If you like Pinot Grigio try this and let us know what you think.

On aroma alone you’d never guess chardonnay, but it does reveal itself in the finish. Unoaked is the only chardonnay that makes it in the cart for me. Overall a great mix-up from my usual riesling and sauvignon blanc whites.
Confession: This is my house white wine and I love it. A terrific example of how skipping the oak allows the Chardonnay to shine. I know it’s French but I promise it is not fussy.
