I was instantly transported back to my last trip to Paris. Sampling tasty small perfectly executed dishes and sipping wine while people watching along crowded cobblestone streets. You won’t find 12-year-old bottles of wine for under $20 very often. Very french. Very much old world. The primary grape is Merlot (80%), followed up with Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon. A shining example of the possibilities of Merlot. I know many people who are simultaneously curious and unsure about French wine. This is a great introduction to the world of GOOD French table wine.

Chuck’s Take
Here you have a nice light bodied dry red that’s made without oak barrels to mix it up a little. It’s a blend of Corvina and Merlot grape varietals. Fresco in Italian means fresh and this wine really tastes fresh! Here’s why:
The grapes are harvested at the coolest time of the day and immediately pressed and made into wine. It’s fermented only with the natural yeasts found on the grape skins, decanted and then bottled unfiltered (it’s quite clear and had no sediment).

This wine is Vegan (they didn’t use animal based clarifiers)
This wine is sustainable (ultra light glass and recycled paper labels)

Here’s a good value pickup to have around when you need a weekday wine. It’s a balanced blend of tempranillo and merlot where the best of both come through. The spicy/earthy side of tempranillo against the round/juicy side of merlot. The price is pretty much the lowest you can find a bottle of red for in my area. Overall I’d say that for the price this wine does punch above it’s weight. It also just so happens to go well with a box of chocolates!
The label is not only full of useless knowledge of bulls (and things of bull related nature), but Sean and I also noticed that his bottle had a “sticker score” of 94 and mine had one saying 90. Shady? What’s in a sticker anyways? Listen to me us. Online strangers have mentioned theirs didn’t live up to the rating of 96. Do I again need to say the bottle is under $9?
Sean’s Take
This wine gets a lot of hype, especially after being featured in a major newspaper. Medium bodied, easy to drink with or without food. I think the Merlot is there to round the edges off the Tempranillo and it worked perfectly. Raspberry, red berries, and a bit of spice. A very well made wine at a great price. Will become a house staple.

This is a real non-descript middle of the road merlot. I do like merlot from time to time when it has some structure. Merlot isn’t in Italy’s wheelhouse. That’s fine, they have better things growing.

This is a blend of two medium weight gapes. Gamay Noir can sometimes have an almost soapy aroma (doesn’t mean it’s bad) and this certainly delivered. The wine has a clear beginning, middle, and end. Up first is a nice fresh red plum flavour, followed by more red stone fruit and black cherry, it finishes with some mixed spices. The challenge for me is that these great flavours were not integrated and for all the interesting things happening it lacked depth.
