Sean’s Take
Nicely balanced between acid and sweet. Fruit is present and noticeable but not overwhelming, like a compote. Definitely serve this with food as the tannins are a little grippy, but smoothed out when decanted. Terrific value for an Organic wine around $10.00

Well, it just wasn’t the diamond in the rough I hoped it would be. Especially from the makers of one of my value house reds
If you want to know what ‘flabby’ means in the world of wine, this is a good example. Why? The acidity and tannins are so low the wine is thrown off balance. Lacking any structure.

A nice and easy to drink Pinot in a new world style. The fruit is soft and supple. I specifically picked out yellow apple, which is one of my favourite fruits. Pinot Gris is another name for Pinot Grigio (for bonus points, it’s also called Grauburgunder).

I nice benchmark of this varietal ( Montepulciano d’Abruzzo ). Medium-full body, medium oak tannins, high acidity. Classic Italian old world style and flavour.
Thanks to Heather for sending us this bottle all the way from PEI! It was enjoyed on a Saturday night with home made pizza.

The carbonation is very fine and doesn’t lead to that urge to belch. Riesling is not typically found in sparkling wine, so that’s interesting. The flavour I keyed on was a toss-up between kiwi and tangerine, but I settled on the citrus in the end. It’s nice, refreshing, and easy to drink.

Very crisp and refreshing. Dry to off-dry with a light body. A great middle ground sparkling. The flavours don’t lean too heavy in any direction. Well balanced for the price. Non-vintage (no year on the label) but I say try it out!

Underachiever for the price. Non-vintage (no year). What’s up with the extra heavy glass bottle? Trying to market fancy and expensive to the uneducated Josh? Seems wasteful and not environmentally conscious to me.
Light-medium body and extra dry. Drink it cold because it’s gross when it warms up. Maybe pour smaller glasses? check!
I tried this wine to see if what people are bringing to ‘Book Club’ are secret good finds. Nope! not this one anyways. I’m not going to repurchase this one.

Lately, I have been buying unusual things I see at the wine store. I present to you a “wine beverage”. This is a blend of coconut water, Chardonnay, Moscato, and carbonated water. It’s refreshing, it tastes like wine and coconut water. Not my cup of tea…err, wine beverage.

The label suggested seafood. I tried it and disagree.
Chuck’s Take
Light body, dry, bland finish when cold but I noticed that as it warmed in the glass the lemon and lime ratcheted up and gave a puckering sourness on the palate.

Very fruity and alive. Polite small bubbles. Clean and crisp. According to the winery, it’s mostly Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay. They left the skins in contact with the grape juice to get a natural coloration instead of blending back red wine. They did a stellar job.

This wine is a blend of Riesling and Moscato grapes. On their own, these grapes have distinctive qualities, but for some reason in this bottle, they have blended together into what I call a fruit cup. You know those fruit cup snacks you got as a kid (or still enjoy today) where all the fruit tastes vaguely the same but the cherry really stood out and the whole thing is nice and sweet?

Chuck’s Take
It’s your classic Old World Italian weekday table wine. Perfect to have with your stereotypical spaghetti and meatballs on a Tuesday night in good o’l North America.
Medium body, dry, grippy tannins that make your gums feel nice and dry. Something that reminds me of some pretty expensive Barolos I’ve had in the past.
